I love Christmas

That awkward moment when you realize that you are the only one in your family who truly cares about Christmas

Thoughts on Christmas: A College Essay

I’ve never been really religious, but I have always loved Christmas. Everyone has their own little traditions for the holidays; my family’s consist of buying a tree and decorating, setting up our 50+ nutcrackers, watching It’s A Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve and gleefully opening presents on Christmas Morning. It consists of a big family dinner, followed by carols and family gift exchanges. It consists of a lot of laughs, and probably a lot of stress for the adults. None of those traditions, however, are my favorite tradition. My favorite Christmas tradition is the holiday itself. You see, I’m never been really religious, so I don’t look at Christmas in a religious way. To me, Christmas isn’t about the birth of a savior, or presents, or even about the lights on my tree. To me, Christmas is about banding together as people during the dark, cold months of the year, and just celebrating the human spirit. It’s about smiling at people you don’t know and about spreading good cheer where you can. Christmas is my favorite tradition because it shows just how much we need other people, and what we’re willing to do for each other.
